Technical Preparation

The most important piece of any SR&ED claim is the technical report. That said, the technical report has no value if you haven’t met the qualifying criteria and completely supported your claim with technical evidence. Every number in your claim should be supported every single time.

A few tips as you plan how your documentation will be organized:

  1. Organize chronologically or by major parts of a project.
  2. Seperate technical documentation (trial runs, testing protocols, designs, etc) from financial documentation (contracts, time sheets, records of resources, allocated materials, machinery, and equipment).
  3. Be prepared for an audit and make sure the most relevant site data is on hand and easily shared. This will make things easier for you, your staff and the CRA auditors.
